French Mats

Lines and washes on mats became popular in Europe toward the end of the 18th century and were well established by the 19th century. The technique is still very popular today in the design of botanical prints as well as other antique prints, such as early English hunting scenes, and maps. Every mat we produce is done by hand, one line at a time, one panel at a time, paying attention to the very fine details of each design.

Our linen and silk material can be wrapped on 4 ply, 8 ply, or 12 ply rag board to add texture and elegance to any design. Each mat is wrapped by hand to ensure a sharp crisp bevel.
